The past two days have been incredibly eventful. This past Monday, we marked the half-decade milestone of the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles with a competition to decide the best first-party game of this console generation. We presented eight PS5 games and eight Xbox Series X exclusives to compete against each other, culminating in a final showdown where the leading contender from each platform would go head-to-head. There have been some incredibly close calls in the first two rounds, especially the extremely tight polls from the previous day. At this point, it's time to crown the leading PlayStation and Xbox titles ahead of the championship on Thursday.

The PS5 Side

On the PS5 side, we have the giant-slayer, Astro Bot. Perhaps it's expected given that it took home the top prize at the previous year's gaming accolades, but its win against God of War Ragnarök feels like a true upset. But to get to the finals, it'll need to defeat the most valuable player of the PS5 generation: Insomniac Games. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 enjoyed an easy journey to the semi-finals, defeating Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another Insomniac game!) to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Can Spidey topple a home-grown Sony mascot, or is he fated to become a miniature appearance in the next Astro Bot game?

The Xbox Series X Side

The Xbox Series X side has been even juicier. Coming out on top from a diverse lineup of contenders is Forza Horizon 5. It's a big victory for the racing adventure title so far, demonstrating that a more specialized genre game deserves to be on the same pedestal as classic platformers and cinematic action-adventure games. Its final obstacle on the way to the championship is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has proven to be a fan favorite, defeating critical darlings like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Will it overcome a much bigger game from an established IP that's synonymous with the Xbox brand? If anyone can pull that off, it's likely Indiana Jones.
