Diving into a Unusual Steam Demo: Guiding a Poop with the Goal to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have encountered plenty of engaging independent titles. But, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a protagonist that is truly a piece of poop striving to navigate to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is simple: you only need a one button to leap. Throughout one hundred fifty stages, battle mini-bosses and visit a store to acquire outfits for your dung hero.
Plan your jumps with caution, since one error forces beginning again. Bounce on air pockets to propel your character upward, cross crumbling platforms, and activate buttons to reveal hidden paths. Gather UN-KOINS for buying more difficult levels as things gets crazy.
Visually, the game shows off eye-catching stages and a killer music score. The simple graphics featuring morphing abstract forms may remind fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's tough to recall other games where you play as a coiled turd, interactive entertainment frequently featured scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can craft throwables from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as soil enrichment. Naturally, such content shows up extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable recognition, including being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is available now on Steam, with the full game set to arrive on Steam on November 19.
